Using Google search console: cheat sheet

The first task in Google Search Console is usually getting an overview of your site’s performance.

  1. Select “Performance”
  2. Set the date range to 3 months
  3. Toggle on “average CTR” and “average position”
  4. Click on “More” and then “Compare” and toggle “Compare last three months to previous period.

This report answers most questions about your site’s performance. Firstly, it tells you if traffic is growing or shrinking compared to the previous three months. It also gives you the average click-through rate and average page position.

Next, scroll down, and the queries tab tells you the top search terms people are using to find your content.

You can also click on ‘pages’ to see the top-ranking pages.
